H1N1 influenza vaccine is strongly recommended to reduce severity of illness and death from pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 virus infection.
The Health Department has received an initial shipment of vaccine and more will be arriving over the coming weeks. The vaccine will be offered free of charge to persons in the following priority groups as recommended by the CDC:
- Household contacts or caregivers of infants younger than 6 months of age
- Healthcare and emergency medical personnel
- Anyone from 6 months through 24 years of age
- Anyone from 25 through 64 years of age with underlying health conditions which make them at higher risk for complications from influenza
As more vaccine becomes available, vaccine will be offered to the following groups:
- Healthy adults 25 through 64 years of age
- Adults 65 years and older
Additional clinics will be scheduled in communities throughout Christian County as more vaccine becomes available.
